Billy Bob Thornton To Star In Fargo TV Series Aug 5th 2013, 17:31
Billy Bob Thornton is to star in a TV adaptation of the Oscar-winning Coen brothers film Fargo.
FX network boss John Landgraf said Thornton has signed on to a limited series based on the 1996 crime comedy-drama.
It is scheduled for a 10-episode run on FX next year.
Thornton, who was married to Angelina Jolie from 2000 to 2002, will play a rootless con artist in a similar role to the one played by Steve Buscemi in 1996.
No characters will be carried over from the film, which landed Frances McDormand with a best actress Oscar and Joel and Ethan Coen with the best original screenplay trophy.
The film features McDormand as a pregnant police chief who investigates a series of murders, while William H Macy is a car salesman who hires two criminals to kidnap his wife.
Even so, Mr Landgraf says the series will be "remarkably true to the film." The Coens are associated with the series.
Thornton won an Oscar for writing the 1996 drama Sling Blade, in which he also starred.
No other cast members have been announced.
